Snooker star Jimmy White has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of trying to get a friend to take the penalty points that he received for speeding.

The six-time World Championship finalist is thought to be on the verge of a driving ban, according to the Sunday Mirror.

White's car was allegedly snapped speeding in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, leading to a ticket being sent through the post.

It has been suggested that the 47-year-old passed on the penalty points and fine to a friend who lives in Jersey - where British driving endorsements do not count.

Officers are investigating whether the sports personality is guilty of perverting the course of justice.

A police source said: "A car belonging to Jimmy White was caught on camera speeding and he was sent a ticket, but when the fine was paid a 60-year-old man claimed that he had been driving.

"As a result of investigations, a warrant was issued for their arrest and both were questioned."

The pair were interviewed and have been bailed until next month.

A police spokeswoman said: "A 47-year-old man and a 60-year-old man were arrested on August 4 on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

"Both men, the 47-year-old from Surrey and the 60-year-old from Jersey, have been released on police bail pending further inquiries."
