Dame Shirley Bassey has claimed that fame isn't "lasting" anymore.
The singer criticised television talent shows because they thrust young people into the spotlight before they are ready, WENN reports.
"These days, if kids do get discovered, it's sad, it's not lasting because they're not taken care of," she said.
"I was taken care of but young people now are instant stars, they can't handle it and the inevitable happens - they turn to drugs and drink."
Dame Bassey's granddaughter reportedly auditioned for The X Factor this year.
