Glastonbury takes 2006 off
Published Tuesday, Jan 18 2005, 13:08 GMT | By Daniel Saney
The Glastonbury Festival will not be taking place in 2006, organiser Michael Eavis announced today.
While officials gave the go-ahead for this year's festival, Eavis said that he would be giving locals a rest from the annual disruption in 2006 while he stood back "to get new ideas".
The festival last took a year off in 2001 because of safety fears and problems of people jumping the fences, which led to the construction of a "super-fence" to keep out non-ticket-holders. During its 2006 break Eavis will be looking to construct a reservoir for the festival, as a spring has been found on the farm which could provide water for the event.
Eavis insists that the decision is not a result of pressure from the locals or Mendip Disctrict Council, as this year's festival was approved by twelve to four.
