The Easy Rider star, 73, has cancelled all his upcoming promotional duties and appearances in order to concentrate on his treatment.
Speaking to The AP, manager Sam Maydew confirmed that Hopper is being treated through a "special programme" at the University of Southern California.
He added that they are "hoping for the best" but declined to comment further on the star's condition.
Hopper was admitted to a New York hospital earlier this month and later claimed that he had been treated for flu-like symptoms and dehydration.
He is currently starring in a television adaptation of the 2004 Oscar-winning movie Crash.
