Tennis star Andre Agassi has reportedly revealed that he used crystal meth periodically for "a year or so".

The eight-time Grand Slam winner, who recently admitted that the long, golden locks that he sported for most of the 1990s were a wig, has said that he used the methamphetamine in 1997 and failed a drug test. The result was then dismissed after he lied by saying that he "unwittingly" took the substance.

The 39-year-old told People: "If you're going to tell your story, you owe it to yourself to tell it honestly. Especially if you're going to call it Open."

Agassi's upcoming autobiography Open is published on November 9.
