The two-time Oscar-winner engaged with the Venezuelan president to discuss the possibility of Penn shooting a film in the South American country.
According to The Huffington Post, Penn is currently considering filming a movie based on a novel by Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier. The story is largely set in the jungle along Venezuela's southern Orinoco River.
Chavez has revealed that the feature could be based on Carpentier's 1953 novel The Lost Steps, about an American anthropologist's journey into the jungle.
The 49-year-old actor's publicist has not yet confirmed the project.
