Delta Goodrem has spoken out about speculation that she started seeing new partner Brian McFadden while she was still dating Mark Philippoussis.

Some say that the pair got together while recording a song for Goodrem's Mistaken Identity album, but at that point Brian was in the process of splitting from wife Kerry and Delta would still be with the tennis player for months to come.

However, Delta told Australia's Channel Nine: "He had his own problems, I had my own problems to deal with.

"When he was going through that (marriage break-up) we recorded the duet and I was travelling around Australia and doing things and came back and did the video and he'd gone through his break-up and it was a different time. I was still in my relationship.

"There was no overlap. We were both single at the time and 20 years old and it was just enjoying someone's company," she insisted.

Speaking about her new relationship she revealed: "It's really early days.

"We got together at the end of last year, like December, and now we've just become friends.

"We work together so we do spend a lot of time (together) at the moment and we've got a single to promote in the UK and Europe."
