Carey 'was emotionally abused'

Mariah Carey has revealed that she was emotionally and mentally abused during her marriage to Tommy Mottola.

The 'I Want To Know What Love Is' star made the admission on Larry King's chatshow last night, E! reports.

The 40-year-old was asked by the presenter if she had ever been in a situation similar to that of singer Rihanna. Carey alluded to her four-year union with the ex-Sony CEO when responding, though did not mention him by name.

She said: "Abuse has several categories. Emotionally, mentally. It's scary. I just think you get into a situation and you feel locked in…For me, to really get out, it was difficult because there was connection that was not only a marriage, but a business thing where the person was in control of my life."

Carey is currently married to actor and rapper Nick Cannon.
