The organisers of the Brit Awards have had to add new nominees after they realised that they had underestimated the length of the year.
Thinking that the 2004 chart year contained 52 weeks, the Brit organisers decided on Band Aid 20, Jamelia, Shapeshifters, Will Young and LMC vs U2 as the list of nominees for the Best British Single.
However, it was then pointed out to them that there were in fact 53 weeks to be considered. In light of this there have been new (and better) nominations added to the list. There are now ten nominees for the award as the original five have been joined by The Streets, Keane, George Michael, Sugababes and Natasha Bedingfield.
A spokesman told The Mirror: "It has been brought to organisers' attention that the 2004 chart year comprised 53 weeks rather than 52.
"To avoid any ambiguity, and in the interest of accuracy and fair play, the Brits committee has decided to expand the nominations list to ten.
"A happy side-effect of this decision is that the British Single nominations now look more exciting than ever."
