Elvis's hair strand up for auction

Rex Features

A lock of Elvis Presley's hair which was collected by his personal barber is going under the hammer.

The strand, which measures 12 inches by 22 inches, comes with its own certificate of authenticity and is expected to raise between £150 and £250.

The piece was saved by Homer Gill Gilleland, who groomed the late music icon for more than 20 years. According to PA, he would dye Elvis's sandy-blond locks black, before cutting them into a towel.

The hairdresser kept the strands in a plastic bread bag at his home until Presley's death, when he began selling them off to fans.
