JLS were reportedly late arriving to turn on the Christmas lights at Manchester's Trafford Centre because thousands of fans showed up.
Band member Aston Merrygold told the Daily Mail that the group had been surprised by the number of people there.
"We were thinking, 'Oh, a couple of people will be there, we'll switch on the Christmas lights, it should be a good laugh'," he said. "But there were so many people there that we were nearly late for the whole thing.
"Our security guys had to divert the traffic away so we could get through to the venue and perform. We had to change in the car then go straight onto the red carpet.
"We never thought it would be anything like that. It was crazy."
JLS' latest single 'Everybody In Love' entered the charts at number one yesterday.
