David Beckham increases security at home

Published Sunday, Jan 23 2005, 10:50 GMT | By Daniel Kilkelly
David Beckham has spent £130,000 on a new alarm system, following a potential arsonist breaking into his home.

The Beckhams were terrified when a man with a history of mental illness broke into the grounds carrying a petrol can - while Victoria, Romeo and Brooklyn were home.

Now infra-red sensors have been installed at the Beckhams' £5 million mansion, to prevent a repeat incident.

A source told The People, "David and Victoria were sick with worry. They had already spent hundreds of thousands on security and couldn't believe it had fallen short of what they had hoped. They made a decision there and then to make sure it could never happen again.

"David already had pressure sensors in the lawn and around the perimeter fence but they didn't work as expected. He demanded they look into how the system failed to catch the man before he was on their property. Now he's determined there won't be a repeat."
