Tom Felton has defended his Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe following tabloid drug allegations.

The actor, who plays Draco Malfoy in the wizard movie franchise, insisted that the stories about Radcliffe being photographed smoking cannabis were not not true.

"I haven't seen him over the weekend, but I spoke to him briefly just to make sure he was OK, and he seems to be dealing with it alright," Felton told GMTV. "And I think he's come to terms with the fact that the press are [not always] on his side."

When asked about the pressure the cast feel to act like role models, he added: "I think especially for Daniel more than anyone really, and it doesn't make it easier when people are publishing articles that aren't true.

"And obviously I feel for the guy, and I know he's got a very strong head on him and I know that he'll sail through this one easily. But yes, it's not easy, but no-one can do it better than Daniel."

Filming is currently under way for the second part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final movie in the series.
