German model Edis Kayalar, 26, has been charged with attempting to extort $100,000 from Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber over an image of their young daughter bound and gagged.
He is alleged to have threatened to sell the photo, which is believed to have been taken by the child's former nanny as part of a "cops and robbers" game.
Kayalar was deported to Germany from the US earlier this year and is thought to be in the Stuttgart area.
Authorities have revealed that an apartment in the Stuttgart area was searched on Saturday and that certain items were confiscated. No-one was arrested.
Police reportedly did not reveal if the apartment belonged to Kayalar or whether he has been charged in Germany.
