The man accused of attempting to extort money from Cindy Crawford has turned himself in to authorities, according to The AP.

Edis Kayalar, 26, is charged with trying to secure $100,000 (£60,000) from the supermodel and her husband Rande Gerber over a photograph of their daughter bound, gagged and tied to a chair.

Kayalar, a German model, is alleged to have threatened to sell or release the image if the money was not paid.

It is believed that the picture was taken by the child's former nanny as part of a "cops and robbers" game and later came into the possession of Kayalar.

Kayalar was deported to Germany from the US earlier this year. Police have said that he walked into a police station in Stuttgart on Monday.

He has been charged with one count of extortion in the US which carries a maximum sentence of two years in jail. He will reportedly appear before a judge today.
