Mayer: 'I don't give a s*** about gossip'

John Mayer has revealed that he dislikes being a tabloid target, insisting that he has done nothing to warrant the constant press scrutiny he receives.

The guitarist was thrust into the public consciousness due to his high-profile relationships with Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston.

His close connection with fans through social networking site Twitter has also exposed him to criticism, but Mayer claimed that he is more interested in music than his reputation or fame.

He told The AP: "I didn't really kill anybody. I didn't smash a car, I didn't commit a crime... I don't like the idea that there's an indictment on anything that I do.

"The idea that there has been a sullying of my image... I'm not going to be buried with an Us Weekly. I don't give a s**t about it anymore."
