Worthington wins 'Man of the Year' award

Sam Worthington has been given the title of 2009 GQ Man of the Year.

The Australian actor, who has risen to fame in films such as Avatar and Terminator Salvation, accepted the award in the Great Hall of Sydney University last night.

"Other people appreciate you for who you are," the AAP quotes Worthington as saying, before he described the qualities that he thinks make up a good man.

The 34-year-old star continued: "I think it would be arrogant to say these are the qualities you should have as a man and I think that other people should be able to assess where you are in life and your good qualities."

Worthington added: "As long as you can make people happy, that's what you should be aiming for."

The 'Actor of the Year' award went to former Home and Away star Ryan Kwanten, who plays Jason Stackhouse in True Blood, while Australian singer Daniel Merriweather won the 'Breakthrough Star of the Year' prize.
