According to People, the Hannah Montana star - who turned 17 today - celebrated the event with friends, family and The Last Song co-star Liam Hemsworth last week.
"She loves the 1980s. The fashion, the big hair, she thinks it's so funky," explained the singer's mum Tish, who organised the bash.
Guests at the celebration at the city's Canal Room were reportedly treated to a performance by the cast of Broadway's Rock Of Ages, while the birthday cake was designed by Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro.
"They didn't want a girly girl cake," he said. "It totally fit the theme. It was really awesome."
The New York Post added that Cyrus arrived at the party dressed as Julia Roberts's character from Pretty Woman.
