Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt reportedly handed over $6.8m (£4.1m) to charity in 2008.

A tax return obtained by The Hollywood Reporter for the Jolie-Pitt Foundation showed that a number of causes benefited from the couple's goodwill.

The biggest recipients were; Global Health, which was awarded $2m (£1.2m); Human Rights Watch, which received $1m (£600,000); and Pitt's Make It Right Foundation, which also gained $1m.

The Armed Services YMCA of the US Army further benefited, as did several projects in Cambodia.

The pair's foundation was established in 2006 to aid humanitarian causes around the world. Earlier this year, it pledged $1m to help refugees in Pakistan and the same amount was given to a hospital in Missouri to aid children's cancer research.
