O'Neal, the son of late actress Farrah Fawcett and her partner Ryan O'Neal, was arrested in September 2008 after being found with methamphetamine.
Judge Michael Tynan is quoted by Perez Hilton as saying to O'Neal: "I told you to turn it around and it looks like you did."
O'Neal apparently replied: "I have been doing treatment for a while your honour. I want to do something different. I want to stay clean."
The 24-year-old was unable to be with his mother before her death in June but she left the bulk of her $4.5 million (£2.7 million) fortune to him.
