The soul singer, who was a close friend of Jackson prior his death in June, was performing 'The Way You Make Me Feel' at the The Rock and Roll 25th Hall Of Fame Anniversary Concert, when he put his head in his hands and cried.
Wonder managed to finish his performance with John Legend and was later given a standing ovation by the audience.
The 59-year-old musician was later given the 'Messenger Of Peace' award at the event. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said: "Our newest Messenger of Peace is someone who is admired by millions of people and has given back to millions of people."
