Billy Joel's daughter has reportedly been hospitalised.

Alexa Ray Joel, who is the daughter of Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, was taken to hospital in New York after having trouble breathing, TMZ reports.

Meanwhile, The AP says that she is in a stable condition and receiving treatment.

Joel's publicist Claire Mercuri refused to say why she had been taken to hospital, adding: "We are currently assessing her needs."

However, unconfirmed reports in the New York Post have claimed that Joel overdosed on sleeping pills, and that police are treating the incident as a suicide attempt.
