The Scottish tycoon was in Kenya with fellow panellists from Dragons' Den as part of a Sport Relief trip when the drama unfolded.
The father-of-six wrote on his Twitter blog: "Christ we just saw a mugging in front of ours [sic] but could do nothing. Felt so helpless."
According to The Sunday Telegraph, Bannatyne, 60, later added: "It is dark here now. Muggers grabbed the girl's bag and ran into the bushes before we could move. We are all ok and safe, thanks for asking."
