Billy Joel's daughter leaves hospital

The daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley has been released from hospital after allegedly taking an overdose of pills.

Alexa Ray Joel, 23, was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in New York over the weekend after reportedly experiencing breathing difficulties.

Police sources have suggested that she swallowed eight pills before the emergency services were called.

According to the New York Daily News, she was released a few hours after being admitted to the hospital on Saturday night.

Joel has been quoted as telling Newsday that his daughter is "going to be fine".

Alexa Ray is the only daughter of Joel and Brinkley, who divorced in 1994.
