Newton to perform at carol service

Matthew Newton has been asked to perform 'The Christmas Song' at Melbourne's Carols By Candelight this year.

The Underbelly actor, who recently hit headlines after his hotel room was found trashed and later held up a plane flight, was yesterday confirmed as one of the performers at the Aussie family event.

Also confirmed for the Christmas show are Australian Idol stars Guy Sebastian and Ricki-Lee Coulter, Paulini Curuenavuli and the cast of show The Jersey Boys.

Newton, whose father is legendary television presenter Bert Newton, is currently dating Transformers star Rachael Taylor.
