US pop group Scissor Sisters are the big winners at this year's Brit Awards, taking a total of three gongs.
The New York natives, who opened the show with 'Take Your Mama,' won in the international categories for best group, best album and breakthrough act. Singer Ana Matronic said: "If you told us a year ago we would be getting these awards today we would have called you crazy. You guys made our dream come true."
Leading UK victories included Franz Ferdinand and Keane, each with two awards. The former won best rock act and best British group, dedicating the award to the late influential DJ John Peel. Keane, who thanked fans for persevering through "rubbish gigs," picked up awards for best album (Hopes and Fears) and British breakthrough act.
Soul diva Joss Stone was the other success story of the night, winning best female artist and best urban act. Accepting the gongs, she said: "I don't know what to say. I don't like doing this at all. I'd like to thank my family for being really supportive and everybody that made my record with me. I don't even know what to do right now. Thank you all you guys for voting for me, I feel sick right now."
The Streets - aka Mike Skinner - picked up the prize for best male solo artist over Jamie Cullum, Lemar, Morrissey and Will Young. Although Skinner performed his hit 'Dry Your Eyes' at the show, he failed to collect his award because he was "in the toilet" at the time.
Best song went to Will Young for 'Your Game,' while Muse were picked as best live act and teen rockers McFly as best pop act. Gwen Stefani and Eminem were named best international solo artists.
The most prestigious award of the night, best song of the past 25 years, finally went to Robbie Williams for 'Angels.' The singer, who has won 14 Brits previously, told the audience: "I'm just amazed that my career keeps going."
'Angels' beat competition including Queen's 'We Are The Champions,' Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Heights,' Will Young's 'Leave Right Now' and Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart.'
The ceremony will be televised on ITV1 at 8pm Thursday.
