The executors of Michael Jackson's estate are apparently seeking 5% of its earnings since the popstar's death on June 25.

According to The AP, John Branca and John McClain have not received payments for executing the holdings, despite organising the deals for This Is It and other merchandising contracts.

The estate itself has grossed over $100m (£61m) since Jackson's passing, putting the two men in line for cheques worth millions of dollars.

However, the Jackson family, including mother Katherine, are said to have contested McClain and Branca's standing as executors. It is thought that the estate still faces a lawsuit from John Landis, who is claiming royalties he is owed from the 'Thriller' video.

"Unlike the typical estate, the operation of Michael Jackson's estate is more akin to the operation of a multi-million dollar business enterprise," the administrators' attorney Jeryll S. Cohen said in the court filing.

A decision over whether Branca and McClain are entitled to what they are asking for will be made in a court hearing on January 4.
