Burke: 'Mum is unbelievably proud of me'

Alexandra Burke has claimed that reports of a difficult relationship between her and her mother have been "exaggerated".

Earlier this year, the X Factor winner admitted that she "clashes" with her mother and suggested that the former Soul II Soul singer was jealous of her success.

Her mother later responded to the interview, describing Burke's comments as "upsetting".

Speaking to Fabulous, Burke said: "It's been drama, drama, drama. A lot of things have been blown out of proportion. Yes, me and my mum rowed. We've always had a very sparky relationship. We shout and scream, but we always make up and she remains the most important person in my life."

The 'Broken Heels' singer described her mother as "amazing" and explained that she had left home at 16 because she wanted to pursue a music career.

"It was tough for my mum because she knew what the music business was like," she said. "She'd had her moment of success but she'd also had the downside where she was struggling to make ends meet. We had a massive argument about it and I just upped and left.

"After two years we got back in touch - time passed and we were both ready to talk. When I saw her for the first time I was shocked because she looked ill. I forced her to go to the doctors and they found out she had chronic kidney failure and diabetes.

"From that moment on, I didn't leave her. We still row, but we're so tight. She's unbelievably proud of me."
