Murphy, who was married to British screenwriter Simon Monjack, died yesterday after suffering from cardiac arrest.
Silverstone, who appeared with the 32-year-old in teen film Clueless, told E! Online: "I'm so saddened to hear this news. I loved working with Brittany. She was so talented, so warm and so sweet.
"I always felt connected to her as we shared a very special experience in our lives together. I feel love in my heart for her and hope she is at peace."
Murphy's Girl, Interrupted co-star Whoopi Goldberg added: "It is a terrible loss for us as actors and to the industry but even greater for her family. My thoughts and prayers are with them."
Denise Richards wrote on Twitter: "Brittany Murphy was in Drop Dead Gorgeous with me and was the sweetest and most adorable. Tragic, sad & devastating. Her poor family."
