Brittany Murphy's family left 'devastated'

Brittany Murphy's mother-in-law has spoken about the family's devastation in the wake of the actress's death earlier this week.

Murphy, 32, suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Hospital in LA on Sunday.

"It's very hard for everybody, especially Simon and Brittany's mother," Linda Monjack told The Jewish Chronicle. "I've spoken to her mother, and she is distraught. Brittany was an only child, and her mother was living with them."

Speaking about her son, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, she added: "He has lost the love of his life."

On the subject of funeral arrangements, a source told People: "The working plan is to have a small private family service in the next few days and then a larger memorial service for a larger group early in the New Year."
