Dad ends Barrymore home death campaign

The father of a man who died more than eight years ago at Michael Barrymore's house has reportedly ended his campaign to discover what led to the death.

No-one has ever been charged in the case of Stuart Lubbock, 31, who died in March 2001 after attending a party at the entertainer's house in Roydon, Essex.

Post-mortem tests showed that Lubbock had suffered severe internal injuries which indicated sexual assault, while his bloodstream contained ecstasy, cocaine and alcohol. In 2002, a coroner recorded an open verdict into his death.

Terry Lubbock, of Harlow, told the BBC that the strain of fighting to discover what happened has negatively impacted on his health and that he now must make it his first priority.

"Hopefully there are now an awful lot of people who will carry on the campaign to its conclusion," he said. "The impetus has reached such a stage it won't stop. It will be carried on by an awful lot of other people."

Barrymore and two other men were arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and murder in 2007 but were subsequently released without charge. Essex Police said that a new investigation into the death began in 2006 and remains ongoing.
