Madonna throws party for Malawian orphans

Madonna has organised a Christmas party for children in a Malawian orphanage.

The 51-year-old star reportedly sent a truckload of goods to the Kondanani Orphanage, where her daughter Mercy, 4, was raised.

Santa Claus handed out gifts to more than 80 youngsters, who were also treated to fizzy juice, hamburgers and chocolate, according to The Sunday Mirror.

"I am very happy my friend Mercy bought us shoes, toys, chocolates and cakes," said 6-year-old Chitsanzo. "They are very beautiful."

Madonna flew to Malawi in June to collect Mercy James after winning the legal right to adopt from the central African country. A court had claimed that she had not fulfilled the necessary residency requirements.
