Murphy's mother-in-law "devastated"

Brittany Murphy's mother-in-law has said that the family is "devastated" about the star's sudden death.

The Clueless and 8 Mile star, who was married to screenwriter Simon Monjack, died from cardiac arrest on December 20.

"We're just completely devastated... He has lost the love of his life," People quotes Linda Monjack as saying.

"It's very hard for everybody, especially Simon and Brittany's mother. I've spoken to her mother, and she is distraught. Brittany was an only child, and her mother was living with them."

Murphy's private funeral took place on Christmas Eve in Hollywood Hills.

Celebrities such as Alicia Silverstone, Whoopi Goldberg, Kirstie Alley and Ashton Kutcher have all paid their respects to the late star.
