While the 20-year-old country star has only ever hinted that the pair were an item, persistent rumours suggest that she has been secretly dating Lautner, 17, after the pair grew close while filming upcoming romantic comedy Valentine's Day.
However, after three months together, the couple have decided to call it quits, says Us Weekly.
A source revealed: "It wasn't really developing into anything, and wasn't going to, so they decided they were better as friends.
"There was no chemistry, and it felt contrived... They plan to stay friends."
A representative for Swift has since declined to comment.
