Florida-based Child AbuseWatch.net believe that the guitarist's 2003 arrest on suspicion of the possession of child pornography should be considered ahead of the Miami performance.
Townshend was cleared but placed on the register for five years, reports The Mirror, and an NFL spokesman added: "UK police cleared him since he was doing research for a project on child abuse."
Child AbuseWatch.net founder Evin Daly said: "I'm a fan of the band. Pete Townshend is the only issue and the issue is that he's a former registered sex offender."
