The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star debuted the new look, which took 20 hours to create, on the front cover of this week's People magazine.
Speaking to Extra, stylist Ted Gibson said: "She's become the Kate she always wanted to be. She was really hiding behind that piece of hair so I cut it into a really sexy fringe.
"We actually created a bit of length, a little bit of soft fringe to bring emphasis to her eyes and the colour is beautiful and sexy, modern and hip. What's really cool about it is that every woman in America can wear this hairstyle."
He also joked: "Any time a woman changes her hair, what is she looking for? A new man!"
Gosselin's divorce from ex-husband Jon was finalised in December.
