Artie Lange 'in suicide attempt'

Artie Lange has been hospitalised after suffering alleged self-inflicted stab wounds.

According to police, Howard Stern's radio sidekick was taken to a New Jersey hospital when his mother found him on the floor with nine stab wounds to the stomach.

Detective Mark Competello said that the 42-year-old was unconscious but breathing after stabbing himself with a 13-inch Wolfgang Puck kitchen knife.

Stern released a statement regarding the possible suicide attempt, saying that his thoughts are with Lange's mother and sister.

The star has since been operated on and released from hospital.
