Tom Cruise's girl to join religious sect?

Tom Cruise's new girlfriend may be about to join the religious sect that Cruise is devoted to, the News of the World reports today.

The Mission Impossible star's latest girlfriend, Sofia Vergara, who was raised as a Catholic, has paid a visit to the headquarters of the Scientology sect.

Rumours suggest that Cruise's previous relationships with Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman suffered because of the sect. However, on Friday morning, Sofia went to the main Scientology centre in Los Angeles.

A source told the newspaper, "She drove herself there in a green Range Rover and went inside. Sofia had no known connection to Scientology before meeting Tom, so it's a huge sign they are committed.

"She was in there for a long while. If she hasn't become a member already it looks like she's about to."

Members of the sect believe that humans are descended from aliens, and apparently use electrical lie-detector machines to drive evil from their bodies. Cruise has reportedly donated £10m to the religion.
