Salmon, who took part in Dancing On Ice last year, attended the launch at Chelsea Football Club yesterday alongside Olympic gold medal winner Duncan Goodhew.
The 24th Swimathon is expected to feature 15,000 people swimming in pools around the country in an attempt to raise £1.5million.
"It's great for anyone out there who loves swimming or fancies giving it a go," Salmon told PA. "Everyone's thinking '2010, new year, how can I get fit and healthy? Well this is a great way and there's plenty of time to train.
"I've actually been involved before so I know it's a great event. It's for a great cause and I absolutely love swimming."
The event, which takes place from April 16 to 19, raises money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.
