Shakin' Stevens's solicitor has said that the singer will appeal after he was found guilty of assaulting a press photographer.

The 62-year-old, real name Michael Barrett, was convicted of hitting Hugo McNeice with a microphone during a hotel gig in December 2008, BBC News reports.

Stevens was fined £300 for assault and criminal damage and also ordered to pay £479 in compensation for McNeice's camera lens after the incident at the Tullyglass Hotel.

McNeice said that he only wanted compensation and was "glad it's all over", while Stevens's solicitor maintained that the 'Green Door' singer "is innocent of the charges brought".

The court heard that Stevens approached McNeice during the show in Ballymena, County Antrim before pushing his microphone stand into his camera.
