Talk show host Jay Leno has asked the judge in the Michael Jackson child molestation case to clarify the gag order so that he can continue to refer to the trial on his show.
CNN reports that court papers released yesterday revealed that Leno filed a motion for clarification of the gag order on February 18, the day after he was subpoenaed to be a defence witness.
The motion sought Leno's exemption from the order, which prevents public discussion of the case by those involved, or at the very least that it only prevent him from divulging first-hand information about it.
The motion read: "When the court issued this gag order more than a year ago, it could not possibly have been seeking to affect the ability of entertainment personalities like Mr. Leno to comment about public information in this case."
On Monday, defence attorney Thomas Mesereau told the court how Leno had been approached by Jackson's accuser seeking money to fund his cancer treatments, but the suspicious host contacted the police when he heard his mother coaching the child what to say.
