"This is an Art Attack, this is an Art Attack... THIS IS ART ATTACK!" Neil Buchanan's long-running CITV hit series was the rebellious, more exciting older brother to Tony Hart's various BBC one art shows. Buchanan, a member of heavy metal group Marseille, understood that kids love anarchy and it was his own unique 'zany' approach (do you remember the show's comedy character The Head!) that made the programme a runaway success and its a host a TV icon.
When not busy rocking or creating Art Attacks out of broken-down Ford Cortinas, PVA glue, coat hangers and fifty-seven sweatshirts, Buchanan became a staple and safe-pair-of-hands on the CITV schedules during the '90s. Whether he was presenting kids magazine series Motormouth (alongside Gabby Roslin and Andy Crane), playing Smarty Arty in bizarre comic book comedy Zzzap!, or, best of all, playing the host on the anarchic legendary kids' show Finders Keepers, Buchanan always came across as a jolly pleasant chap and the sort of the bloke who you'd love to share a pint with. Oh, and by the way, despite various online rumours Neil is not dead... he just has an art attack *boom boom*
