The actress appears as Cherie Currie alongside Stewart's Joan Jett in The Runaways, while they recently shared the screen in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about the rock 'n' roll biopic, she said: "You can probably tell we get along really well.
"For the characters, it's really important that bond is portrayed. And we have that in real life."
When asked if she took the role of Currie to help shed her "child star" image, she replied: "I'm just portraying what was going on with [Cherie] when she was my age.
"I want to continue to act for my whole life. Eventually, everyone will have to let me grow up, somehow, some way. I'm just trying to let that happen as naturally as I can."
The Runaways will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next Sunday.
