Rachel Weisz and Jude Law have picked up gongs for 'Best Actress' and 'Best Shakespearean Performance' respectively at the Critics' Circle Theatre Awards.

According to the BBC, Weisz accepted the prize for her performance in West End production A Streetcar Named Desire.

She said that the show had been "a thrilling, exhilarating experience".

She added: "The London critics are the toughest and most discerning critics in the world. It really means a huge amount to me that they're giving me this award - I'm very grateful and proud."

Law, who appeared alongside Weisz in 2001 movie Enemy at the Gates, was recognised for his lead performance in Hamlet, which was played at London's Wyndham's Theatre before transferring to Broadway.

The 37-year-old said: "This came as a huge surprise and means an incredible amount to me."

Meanwhile, Mark Rylance was named 'Best Actor' for his role in Jerusalem.
