John Edwards "still cares" for wife

John Edwards has revealed that he still cares "deeply" about his estranged wife Elizabeth.

The US senator, who recently admitted that he fathered a love child while he was married, said that he finds his current situation very "sad".

Edwards told People magazine: "It is an extraordinarily sad moment, but I love my children more than anything and still care deeply about Elizabeth"

After leaving her husband because of his infidelity, Elizabeth's sister claimed that she said: "I've had it. I can't do this. I want my life back."

A spokesperson for her later said that she is "moving on with her life" after a "excruciatingly painful period for her."
