Alba, who gave birth in 2008, explained that she wants her daughter Honour to be aware of her Mexican heritage.
"God knows that I wish I was raised bilingual," Alba told Siempre Mujer. "But it wasn't to be."
The actress also revealed that she "cried all night" after being criticised for not being fluent in Spanish.
"I tried to explain to [journalists] that in this country I'm considered Latina and, thus, I consider myself Latina as well," she said. "I identify with Mexicans. It's in my blood whether or not I speak Spanish."
