The rapper is about to start a year in jail after pleading guilty to charges of second degree felony of criminal weapons possession and criminal possession of a loaded weapon.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, he said: "I look at things as, 'Everything is meant to be'. I know it's an experience I need to have if God's putting me through it."
Lil Wayne also explained that he is trying to ignore advice about how to spend his time behind bars.
"This is Lil Wayne going to jail," he said. "Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that's like. I just say I'm looking forward to it."
Lil Wayne will report to prison on Tuesday to begin his sentence.
