The Sex and the City actor began the adoption process for the 8-year-old boy a year ago.
"From the first time I met him, I said, 'That's my kid'," said Garson. He went on to say that his biggest challenge as a parent thus far is helping his son with his homework.
"He's in third grade, and I'm in the third grade," joked Garson.
The adoption was fostered by The Alliance for Children's Rights and Westside Children's Centre. It was finalised in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Garson currently stars in White Collar on the USA Network and will also reprise his role as Stanford Blatch in the upcoming Sex And The City movie spinoff sequel.
