Firass Dirani has revealed that he found it "intimidating" to meet the person he plays in the third series of Aussie crime drama Underbelly.

The 25-year-old actor, who has previously starred in Power Rangers: Mystic Force and All Saints, said that he was very nervous before meeting Sydney 'King of the Cross' John Ibrahim.

Dirani told The Daily Telegraph: "[The bar we were in] was closed and it was dark and moody. It was pretty intimidating having his henchman [there]. He actually asked me for a beer and I said 'I'll just have a water thanks' because he doesn't drink.

"He said he had seen a film of mine... and he gave me his blessing to play him in Underbelly.

"I asked him some focal questions about his life. He was a really helpful man. He was like, 'If you need anything else let me know'. But I'd done the chat and I had enough insight into how he was, his aura. I haven't spoken to him since."

Underbelly: The Golden Mile, which hits Australian TV screens next month, tells the story of police corruption and crime in Sydney.
