Some of the biggest names in music are battling it out to secure the opening gig at the new Wembley stadium, according to The Sun today.

Stars such as Robbie Williams, the Rolling Stones, U2 and Rod Stewart have put their names forward to perform for the first ever gig at the £750 million stadium.

A source told the newspaper, "They all want it badly - it's a chance to make history. In front of 70,000 people, the noise will be deafening.

"It will be such a special experience for the fans and the band. It will be a venue of legends and the big names are queuing up to appear.

"We are confident we'll have a world-class line-up of acts next summer. It's just a case of accommodating them all."
